Most of the Coffee Shops today are inspired by western countries which is really evident with their popularity. There are also that are inspired by Asians , which is appropriate really because many of coffee lovers here. Here in Cebu, one unique coffee shop which is barely known for some located in Banilad, the Cafe Maru Coffee Shop.
The Cafe Maru shop is owned by a Korean, the place is not that spacious but it is cozy. You will notice the corner space which is similar to Japanese/Korean theme tea ceremony setup. Ambiance is somewhat none simplistic. You can see lots of stuff besides the usual table and chairs stuff. It is more like a house than a coffee shop which is great if you want to feel at home 🙂
Now on the coffee experience, we ordered that is something new and unique (besides the name), I choose their None Espresso Hot, the “Hot Mint Choco”. As the order reaches the table, you can immediately appreciate the presentation of the drink, it contains a smiley face (drawn in the top with a choco syrup) which is kinda cheesy lol but cute.. lol. I also like the stirrer which is really custom made for the drink (silver like and a stone at the tip) The taste is good, real chocolatey and the sweetness is just right.
The other drink is the “Lotus Leaf Tea” (catchy name), thought that I will never be surprised by a tea presentation but then again, the noticeable part as the order arrived in front of us. The container is very unique which blends perfectly with the Tea, you will also notice the actual leaf ingredient inside which is a popular ingredient in Japan. The glass also fits with the container which is really nice to look at (and take pictures as well).
The Lotus Milk Tea taste is what you expect from a tea which is a bit bitter but fresh in the sense that the actual leaf ingredient is floating within the glass. Of course, tea is always accompanied by sweets which is the dish that will be presented here next.
We have the “Peanut Banana Bread” as the side dish, the food is again properly presented even if the ingredients are really ordinary. From the first look you cannot really tell that the ingredients are (sliced bread, peanut, Banana Slices, choco syrup), the looks really make the difference, of course the blend of it makes a very delicious side dish fit for the drinks ordered.
The menu is really simple in a piece of paper (though they are planning changing it as we speak). The walls contain cute decorations and post it (which contains customers review and appreciation), a really good way to express the customers delight and show it to the other customers as well.
Cafe Maru Cebu Coffee Shop
Overall, the drinks and food is great ,though a bit pricey than other coffee shops, it is still a good try for any coffee lovers or Korean tourists and friends who wants to just hang out and feel actually at home. 🙂
